ChatGPT can now find your iCloud mail and update your calendar

Two connections, with separate access

The release notes say users can find messages, catch up on an inbox, check a schedule and update events. OpenAI describes a global rollout to every ChatGPT plan on web, desktop and iOS, subject to workspace controls. That includes European readers in the announced rollout; it is not a claim that every account has already received it.

Mail and Calendar are separate plugins. Connecting one does not grant the other access. Both include read-only contact lookup; standalone Contacts and Reminders plugins are outside this launch. The original announcement shows the new connections in use.

The account details matter

OpenAI’s setup guidance requires an Apple app-specific password, a separate credential for an outside app, rather than the normal Apple password. Mail uses an iCloud address ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com. Calendar uses the primary Apple Account email, which may be different. Passwords belong in the connection form, never in a chat.

There is also a data-setting distinction. OpenAI says information accessed through apps may be used for training on Free, Go, Plus and Pro when “Improve the model for everyone” is enabled. Business, Enterprise and Edu app data is not used for training by default. Connecting a service and choosing when ChatGPT asks for approval are separate controls.

We have not connected a private mailbox or tested an event change for this report. The verified change is the new access; how reliably it handles a busy inbox still needs firsthand checking.
